Solo Batik Carnival

SOLO BATIK CARNIVAL -

Batik merupakan salah satu warisan budaya agung nenek moyang yang keberadaannya masih terus lestari hingga kini. Salah satu tempat yang menjadi akar pertumbuhan batik nusantara adalah Kota Solo yang juga pernah menjadi ibukota Keraton Surakarta Hadiningrat. Guna lebih memperkenalkan Solo sebagai Kota Batik di mata Indonesia maupun dunia, sejak tahun 2008 digelar lah sebuah perhelatan akbar bertajuk Solo Batik Carnival (SBC). Gelaran tahunan ini diselenggarakan oleh Solo Center Point Foundation dan Pemerintah Kota Surakarta.
Solo Batik Carnival adalah karnaval berbasis masyarakat yang dirancang untuk menjadi sebuah karnaval tingkat dunia. Awalnya, karnaval ini terinspirasi dari Jember Fashion Carnaval (JFC), sebuah parade peragaan busana di jalanan. Karena itu tak heran jika konsep keduanya hampir sama. Hanya saja yang membedakan adalah dalam bahan utama pembuatan kostum. Sesuai dengan namanya Solo Batik Carnival, batik dijadikan sebagai sumber ide sekaligus materi utama penciptaan kostum karnaval yang fantastis. Sebelum mengikuti karnaval, setiap peserta diwajibkan mengikuti workshop merancang kostum selama berbulan-bulan. Kostum karnaval yang dirancang kemudian dipakai sendiri oleh para peserta dalam puncak acara Solo Batik Carnival yang berlangsung di sepanjang Jalan Slamet Riyadi hingga Kantor Balai Kota Solo.
Pada awal pelaksanaannya, Solo Batik Carnival selalu dilakukan pada siang hari. Namun mulai tahun ke-4 Solo Batik Carnival dilaksanakan pada malam hari. Kostum berbahan utama batik yang mewah dan megah serta sorotan lampu warna-warni menjadikan gelaran Solo Batik Carnival semakin istimewa. Tak heran jika ribuan penonton berdatangan dari berbagai tempat dan memadati jalan yang dijadikan sebagai lokasi parade. Tanggal pelaksanaan Solo Batik Carnival selalu berganti tiap tahunnya, namun mulai tahun 2009 Solo Batik Carnival selalu dilaksanakan pada bulan Juni.
Setiap tahunnya, Solo Batik Carnival mengusung tema yang berbeda mulai dari "Topeng", "Sekar Jagad", hingga "Keajaiban Legenda". Tema-tema tersebut kemudian diterjemahkan melalui kostum rancangan peserta yang unik dan kreatif. Corak batik klasik dipadukan dengan batik kontemporer dan dihiasi dengan manik-manik serta mahkota menjadikan kostum makin semarak. Tak heran jika saat mengikuti Chingay Festival di Singapura, delegasi Solo Batik Carnival mendapat apresiasi meriah dari penonton. Saat ini Solo Batik Carnival terus berbenah diri guna menjadi salah satu karnaval yang diperhitungkan di kancah internasional.
