Gunungkidul mempunyai potensi ekowisata yang melimpah, di antaranya gua karst (gua di kawasan tanah kapur). Salah satu gua yang sudah ditelusuri adalah Gua seropan di desa semuluh kecamatan semanu kabupaten Gunungkidul Daerah Istimewa Yogyakata.

Acintyacunyata Speleological Club (ASC), sebuah kelompok telusur gua telah menjejakkan kaki di gua dengan panjang 888 meter ini. Meniti inchi demi inchi lekuk gua seropan, berpeluk mesra dengan lembutnya air kali bawah tanah yang mengalir di dalamnya. Merasakan sensasi berada di kedalaman perut bumi gunungkidul, menyibak keindahan di balik kegersangan negerinya para pekerja keras ini.

Gua Seropan, keindahan yang terlahir dari hasil perkawinan antara stalagtit yang menggoreskan eksotisme 3d ornament dan aliran sungai bawah tanah membuat mata terperangah. Di gua karst yang terbentuk di kedalaman 60 meter di bawah permukaan tanah ini terdapat air terjun yang bisa dimanfaatkan sebagai pembangkit listrik dengan menggunakan microhydro technology. Banyak potensi yang dapat digali, tinggal bagaimana perpaduan pemerintah dan masyarakat untuk memberdayakannya.
