Museum Kereta Api Ambarawa

Pemberhentian Lokomotif Tua yang Masih Bertenaga

Seorang peramal terkenal pada masa Kerajaan Kediri, Jayabaya, pernah berujar, "mbesuk yen ana ramening jaman, Tanah Jawa bakal sabukan wesi" (suatu saat jika zaman sudah ramai, Tanah Jawa akan berikatpinggangkan besi). Pertengahan abad ke-19 prediksi itu terbukti benar. Jalur kereta api mulai dibangun untuk pertama kalinya di Jawa pada tahun 1864 dan terus dibangun di sepanjang pulau sehingga menjadi ikat pinggang yang mempersatukan Jawa. Kereta api sebagai alat transportasi massal memberi ruang bagi orang-orang di bagian barat, tengah, dan timur Jawa untuk saling mengenal dan bertegur sapa.
Pada masa itu keberadaan kereta api jauh lebih populer dibandingkan kereta kuda, gerobak, atau mobil. Stasiun demi stasiun pun dibangun guna memudahkan perjalanan. Berhubung pada zaman Hindia Belanda kawasan Ambarawa merupakan daerah militer, The Netherlands Indische Spoorweg Maatscappij (Jawatan Kereta Api Belanda) membangun sebuah stasiun kereta api di Ambarawa dengan nama Stasiun Kereta Api Willem 1 supaya memudahkan mengangkut pasukan menuju Semarang. Pada tahun 1976, Stasiun Ambarawa dialihfungsikan menjadi Museum Kereta Api Ambarawa dengan koleksi utama berupa 21 loko uap yang diletakkan di tempat terbuka, menyebar di bawah rimbunnya pepohonan. Lokomotif berusia tua tersebut beberapa di antaranya mempunyai nilai sejarah yang tinggi. Loko C28 buatan pabrik Jerman merupakan loko yang membantu pelarian Presiden Soekarno dari Jakarta ke Yogyakarta pada tahun 1946. Sedangkan loko D5106 pernah bertugas di jalur Hedjaz Railway dan mengangkut jemaah haji serta logistik tentara Turki.
Saat kami tiba di Museum Kereta Api Ambarawa, suasana tidak begitu ramai sebab hari sudah beranjak sore. Bangunan tua menyerupai lokomotif dan gerbong kereta yang dahulu berfungsi sebagai kantor stasiun menyambut siapapun yang datang. Saat ini bangunan tersebut berfungsi sebagai ruang pamer, tempat menyimpan beberapa koleksi museum seperti pesawat telepon kuno, mesin ketik, mesin hitung, mesin telegram,stempel karcis, hingga beragam topi masinis. Selain itu, terdapat foto-foto tentang sejarah perkeretaapian di Indonesia. Di sisi kiri dan kanan bangunan berjajar kursi kayu tua yang nyaman untuk menikmati segarnya angin sore. Sekumpulan bocah lelaki nampak asyik bermain bola di antara rel, lokomotif tua, dan lori wisata. Pada musim liburan, akhir pekan, atau banyak kunjungan wisatawan, kereta lori wisata dengan kapasitas 15 - 20 penumpang akan dijalankan menyusuri rel Ambarawa - Tuntang. Sayangnya saat kami datang lori wisata tersebut sedang tidak beroperasi.
Bersebelahan dengan lori terdapat gerbong kereta uap berwarna hijau dengan ornamen kuning. Biasanya gerbong berkapasitas 80 orang itu ditarik oleh loko B5202 atau B5203 yang merupakan lokomotif tua buatan Maschinenfabriek Esslingen, Jerman. Meskipun sudah tua, lokomotif yang hanya tersisa di tiga tempat di dunia tersebut masih sanggup menarik gerbong kereta dan mendaki pengunungan menuju Stasiun Bedono. Tarifnya yang mahal untuk sekali keberangkatan sebanding dengan pengalaman yang diperoleh saat naik kereta api uap bergerigi ini. Di sepanjang jalan, mata Anda akan dimanja dengan lanskap menawan berupa sawah dan ladang dengan latar belakang Gunung Ungaran dan Gunung Merbabu, serta Rawa Pening di kejauhan. Tak hanya bertamasya naik kereta semata, perjalanan ini sekaligus menjadi napak tilas jejak perkeretaapian di Indonesia.
